Slipcovered Loveseat

This was one of those really tired looking pieces that was majorly revived by a cheery yellow damask material. A custom slipcover, but you would never guess because the curves have been excentuated. This slipcover cannot be laundered but could be removed for a drycleaning.
I charged $175 for this piece due to the boxpleated skirt and cording along with the corded cushion. Also a busy print like this one makes construction a bit more difficult. A good deal on material could turn your ugly piece in to a show stopper for less than $200.

2 Double Width Panels w/ Interlining

These curtains are the new shot of drama to this living room. The clients wanted "bold" because it is what you see as you enter the home. A large set of double sliding doors let in hot sun and cool air in the winter. I included an insulating interlining to these silk panels with grommets along the header. The interlining will prevent cold air from seeping in during the winter and vice versa during the summer. The grommets keep the look from becoming too traditional for this young hip couple but, are extemely functional for pulling back and forth daily.

Antique Recovered Chairs

These are a pair of great antique chairs Rachel picked up at an estate sale for a steal! Somewhere in my phone I have the before pictures and they have come a long way with the silky, quilted material she chose to cover them. I lais a clean blue lining over all the work done so everything looks really clean and crisp. They make a great showing in her home!

A Tisket, A Tasket.....Custom Bassinette!

A tisket, a tasket, a Baby in a Basket! Check out my friends gorgeous Baby, Mason! She had a neat antique bassinette she wanted to use but, had no linens to go with it, so we reused a large shabby chic curtain as the material! Perfect for keeping baby near by. I made the skirt to velcro onto the base of the basket and the interior liner lifts right out for easy cleaning.

McHaney's Big Girl Room

The 2 windows show my work. The four tie top panels are 100 inches long and bring your eye up with the detail of the bows. What a great room to grow up in! The panels just touch the ground and are funtional for pulling together at night and whenever McHaney needs her beauty sleep!

Tie top curtains were an excellent choice for this girly bedroom. McHaney's Mom picked an "Under the Sea" theme in the choosing of her fabrics. Vintage picks include mermaids, seahorses, and octopi. The quilt on the gorgeous antique bed ties everything in the room together.

Slipcovered Dining Chairs with boxpleats

Slipcovering a dining room chair brightens the whole room. This look is certainly popular right now. Any chair works - from a parsons chair to any ladder back chair.

Have you inherited a table and chairs you couldn't care less for but, don't have the money to start over? Duck cloth is less than $3 a yard! These chairs took less than 2 yards a piece.

Slipcovered sofa with 6 cushions

Matthew and Jenny just welcomed their first child, Grant! This slipcover will certainly help out in the future as there will definitly be plenty of messes to clean up in the family room. Now they can throw their whole sofa in the washer if need be!
Look at House Beautifuls February issue. You will see a designer featured from the 60s who was famous for the slipcovered look which is now coming back! The pictures' resemblance is remarkable and for only around $250. We arrived at this estimate because there were 6 individual cushions to cover and the box pleated skirt added to the bottom. Prices vary and estimates are free!

The sofa underneath the slipcover looked lik the dark green pillows we sat on top of the piece. What a contrast! The dark pillows on top keep the piece grounded and create depth otherwise the sofa would just fade away.

Jenny and Mathew had a very pretty olive green chenille sofa. Visually it was very dark and heavy in their "light and bright" living room. We used inexpensive duck cloth with an organic linen look to it. Now they can wash their cushion covers if they need to but, they have the versatility of returning to their original sofa whenever they like!

Megan and Barry's Chair and Ottoman

Megan and Barry had a very comfortable chair that was well made and very out of style. A new chocolate chenille covers the chair now! We did not put a traditional skirt on either piece and the result makes it contemporary and updated. This is a permanent custom slipcover because the edges were stapled up underneath the pieces. Very clean and updated. I am told it is just as comfortable as it was before.

Roman Shades with Old Windows

Above, you can see the before and after pictures of the window with roman shade I completed.
The far more interesting pictures are to the left and below. This was a really challenging job because the window was on the corner of the old building. He wanted Roman shades the guests couls sleep late if they wanted. They were also a clean simple design for this comtemporary room.
This linen gives a clean drapey look when the shade is pulled up.

We mounted the framing system I built into the window frame for a very clean look. Nothing fussy. Totally custom!

Meghan's Old Chair got a Makeover

This is Meghan's comfy chair! Before the dog had chewed and worn out certain areas of the upholstery. Meghan chose a brand new material to cover the piece in a custom slip cover. It was callled "Bandana Spice" - fun name. I put a box pleated skirt on the chair and ottoman . It looks really clean and new now, but it is still her old comfy chair.

Lauryn's Big Girl Room

Lauryn had just moved out of her crib and into a new bed with new bedding. She needed room darkening panels to take good naps during the daytime!
Her Mom gave me a great design. We chose a pale pink twill material but, in order for it to stand out bordered the edges in a more expensive chocolate polka dot and piping along the top. Upholstered bottons cap off the pinched pleats and finish off a very girly design!

This picture shows the header of the panels more closely. You can see how the upholstered butoons really pop off the pink twill and mimic the polka dots in the border material!

The room had one tall narrow window and one wider one. This window only took one width of material after we bordered the edges.

The material she picked definitely ties everything together!

Here is a look at a crib skirt I made for another posting below. Crib skirts start at $40.

Custom Slipcover

We have seen this over and over again in Traditional Home and other high end magazines and copied it for around $100 a chair for labor and $5 a yard for the material.

This was a cozy dark chenille chair. My client wanted to lighten and brighten her space with BEIGE! A practical and inexpensive option for slip covers is duck cloth or canvas. For around $5 a yard we can prewash material to create a "washable chair". Wonderful for Kids and their Playrooms or just a calmer Nantucket feel to your primary living space.

Bumper pads start at $50 and go up with trims, ties, and other extras. We can taylor make one for your crib with a matching dust ruffle.
This is a bumper pad I made for a client. We made the ties extra long since the rungs of this beautiful crib were so thick. A matching nursery pillow with a box pleated trim is a nice "extra".

Nursery seat cushion and pillow

Candie's new baby girl will have these for her new nursery. We covered an existing seat cushion with her nursery material. There was a little extra so I made a coordinating accent pillow.
This seat cushion ties in place. So girly!

Custom Slipcovered Chair

I call this the "Joanna Chair", because I made it for my new friend Joanna! She picked a beautiful material to show off the curves on this shapely chair. It became a beautiful addition to their bedroom. Joanna did not paint her bedroom walls metallic but, for some reason that is the way the picture looks- ha! I am seamstress, not a photographer. Something like this would cost about $90 because it is so large and curvatious. The price would continue to go up with cording in the seams or a box pleated skirt.

Sofa Pillows

These are real gorgeous sofa pillows. The fringe is so luxurious and really dresses these pillows up.

Outdoor Cushions for Fall!

I made these cushions for an outdoor sitting area! Red is bright for fall. We added chair ties to keep them in their seats. Now is a good time to purchase cheap cushions on sale at walmart (off season) and recover them in a fun fabric. The weather is getting cooler and you can finally enjoy sitting outdoors!

Single Pinched Pleat Panels with hem

These are some single pinched pleat panels with a decorative hem that coordinates with the rest of the room. This saved on our more expensive fabric too. The window was short and wide so, I had the panels just cover the window sill.

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Here is another picture of the same job below. The best thing about these rich panels is that if you were to move, they work on almost any window. You can take them to your new home and easily altered if needed - if they don't sell your house for you like mine did!

These are a gorgeous example of ceiling to floor triple pinched pleat panels. I did these for my neighbors in Montgomery, AL. They had a beautiful older home with tall ceilings. Linen was a rich neutral they thought they could do a lot with so, we did all 6 windows. The room was totally transformed.

This is a set of shams with a flanged edge and a neck roll pillow I made to coordinate with a store bought coverlet. I also made the box pleated dust ruffle out of the same material to finish off this very high bed. It gives a custom look to an already existing coverlet.

Rod Pocket Panel

This is a rod pocket panel made for my sister's bathroom. We purposely kept it from touching the floor to keep it from getting wet. It is single width and unlined. Something similar would start at $35 a panel because it is an unlined rod pocket style.

Roman Shades in French Doors

These french doors connect a private bedroom to a sunroom. I made these roman shades to coordinate to the bedroom on one side and then the sunroom on the reverse side shown in the bottom picture.

Reupholstered Loveseat

This was an old beige loveseat that had stains and was an eyesore. Because it had such clean lines I opted to recover it permanantly. It cannot be removed and washed like a slipcover, but it does give more of a custom look. This fabric makes it look like it was ordered out of Ballard Design! A job similar to this one with 4 individual cushions would cost $150. If there were no back cushions it would only be $100 because of the limited sewing.

Window Valance

I created this window valance for my son's nursery at my parent's home. We liked the natural light coming through the sheers but, wanted to dress up the window somehow. It gives a real finished look. Something like this would start at $35, fabric excluded.
